Design intent means creating a model so future modifications happen correctly.

Depending on the context, design purpose relates to certain goals in various fields:

Engineering and CAD: using parameters, constraints, and equations so the model adapts predictably when edited

Product Development and Manufacturing: Design intent encompasses the sum of all decisions—including material selection, cost limits, aesthetics, and manufacturing capabilities

Example

Instead of manually locating holes, use

  • Symmetry
  • Midpoint
  • Relations
  • Patterns

Now if dimensions change everything updates correctly.
